Submission Guidelines

Good Natured Roots is committed to a diverse literary culture, and we wish to amplify the work of writers from underrepresented groups (BIPOC, people with disabilities, LGBTQAI+ folks, and other marginalized folk). Our literary magazine welcomes submissions from writers of every experience level.

We love stories that are funny, informative, thoughtful, and heartfelt, in any combination for both fiction and nonfiction stories. Our particular interests are outdoor recreation, community science, appreciation, and awareness of the natural world.

The age range of our audience is 6-12 years old. Writers should submit a children’s story that’s kid-friendly, violence-free, fun, clever, and no more than 800 words. If your story’s theme is seasonal, remember to submit your story three months before the occasion.

Flash fiction - up to 800 words

Poetry - up to 10 lines

Non-fiction - up to 800 words.
